VEGETABLES, FRUITS, AND GREENS
Freshly Picked from Porter Farms, TC Smith Produce & Gregory Gardens
Y’all… right now is the peak of our local produce season! There is so much fresh produce grown right here in Lenoir County soil. It’s the perfect time to have vegetables on your table at every meal — it just doesn’t get any better than this.
Yes, it’s incredibly hot, but think how much hotter it is for the farmers who grow, harvest, load, deliver, unload, and sell this produce — all in the same stifling heat. That’s a tough day.
Let’s make the effort to leave our air-conditioned homes, drive to the market, and support these farmers who bring us fresh produce, eggs, native plants, baked goods, and handcrafted items.
Here’s what you can expect this weekend:
PRODUCE
Canary melons, yellow and Black Jack watermelons, corn (shucked and unshucked), okra, string beans, cantaloupe, squash, zucchini, onions, bell peppers, jalapeños, red and white potatoes, sweet pickling cucumbers, long green cucumbers, green tomatoes, Cherokee Purple tomatoes, and Romas. This diverse array of vegetables and fruits not only adds color to your meals but also packs them with nutrients that energize your body.
If you’re a fan of preserving summer’s goodness, don’t miss out on the wide variety of jams, jellies, marinades, pickles, and relishes available for purchase this weekend. These artisanal products capture the essence of local flavors and can elevate any dish.
B & B EGGS & CRAFTS
Sandra will have her delicious pasture-raised chicken eggs. Fresh eggs are not only a staple for breakfast but also a fantastic ingredient for baking and cooking. If you have some 12-count egg cartons you’d like to recycle, bring them along to share!
ARTS AND CRAFTS
T & J Designs returns with lovely home décor, wreaths, and flags that can add a personal touch to your living space. Additionally, Sandra from B & B has created unique new decoupage jar vases that could serve as beautiful gifts or centerpieces for your own home. Keep an eye out for these handcrafted treasures!
LOCAL PLANTS
In addition to fresh produce, this weekend’s market will showcase a variety of local plants. Whether you’re looking to enhance your garden or add some greenery to your home, these native plants are great choices that require less maintenance and can withstand our local climate more effectively. Supporting local plant growers helps maintain the biodiversity and beauty of our region.
