Stockton Police Department Celebrates Opening of New Pet Wellness and Adoption Center

STOCKTON, Calif. — A vibrant new chapter for animal welfare has begun in Stockton as the Stockton Police Department recently unveiled its new pet wellness and adoption center. This innovative facility aims not only to enhance the quality of life for pets but also to bridge significant gaps in affordable veterinary care for the community.

Affordable Veterinary Care

The center is specifically designed to provide accessible veterinary services, including spay and neuter procedures and wellness care. With the capacity to spay and neuter over 30 animals a day, this resource addresses a pressing need in the community. “We have a very high demand for access to affordable veterinary care,” stated Ashley Kluza, the Animal Services Manager at the Stockton Police Department.

Many pet owners face financial difficulties when it comes to caring for their pets, often leading to the heart-wrenching decision to surrender them. Kluza emphasized that ensuring affordable veterinary options can result in happier, healthier families who are able to keep their beloved animals at home. The center is positioned to not only reduce pet surrenders but also foster a responsible approach to pet ownership.

Community Engagement and Education

Alongside essential medical services, the center will serve as a hub for community engagement and education. Recognizing the importance of responsible pet ownership, the facility will host youth summer classes that teach young people about caring for their pets. Additionally, the center plans to offer unique kitten and puppy yoga classes, where participants can enjoy the therapeutic benefits of yoga in the company of adorable animals.

“All of the puppies and kittens in the yoga classes will be available for adoption as well,” Kluza commented. This innovative program not only encourages community participation but also promotes the adoption of pets in need of loving homes.

Behavioral Training Resources

In line with its mission to support pet ownership, the center will also provide behavioral resources aimed at training pets. Many families struggle with behavioral issues and often feel overwhelmed, leading to the potential surrender of their pets. By offering support and guidance, the Stockton Police Department aims to empower families to navigate these challenges successfully.

Kluza mentioned that many families face tough choices, not only about keeping their pets but also about providing adequate veterinary care. This initiative will help alleviate those burdens, ensuring more animals can remain in loving homes while also receiving necessary medical attention.

Stray Animal Population Reduction

With the introduction of the pet wellness and adoption center, the Stockton Police Animal Services is addressing another critical issue: the growing number of stray animals. Through increased services for pet owners and promoting responsible pet ownership, this initiative is expected to significantly reduce the number of animals roaming the streets.

The love and care for pets are central to the community’s fabric, and with the center slated to officially open in the spring of 2026, Stockton is poised to make significant strides toward improving animal welfare for both pets and their owners.

For those interested in the journey of their furry friends, the center will serve as an invaluable resource, offering hope and help to pet owners throughout the Stockton area. In this way, the new facility is not just about finding homes for animals; it’s also about nurturing the human-animal bond that enriches lives in this vibrant community.
