Whatcom Roundup: Dirty Dan Harris Back in Business; Old Navy Renovation Progress Update

Published:

Here’s our weekly roundup of the latest retail and restaurant activity around Whatcom County:

Dirty Dan Harris Steakhouse Reopens

The beloved Dirty Dan Harris Steakhouse has officially reopened its doors in Fairhaven after a temporary closure due to the tragic Harris Avenue fire in early 2023. This historic establishment, known for its rich legacy and warm ambiance, took to social media to announce its reopening on April 7. Located at 1211 11th St. in Bellingham, the steakhouse will be welcoming patrons again from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

Recent renovations have given new life to the space, including a transformation of the “Churchill Room.” This area will now be referred to as the “Phantom Room,” specifically designed for private dining or for customers who may have sensory or respiratory issues. The changes reflect the restaurant’s commitment to inclusivity, ensuring all patrons can enjoy their dining experiences comfortably.

New Bellingham Old Navy Hiring

Exciting developments are brewing at the Old Navy location in Bellingham, as they progress towards their grand opening. Positioned at 4201 Meridian St. Ste 101a, in Cordata Center, the store is currently accepting applications online, stepping forward to build a team for its forthcoming debut.

While an official opening date hasn’t been confirmed, the anticipation is building in the community. Additionally, the Old Navy inside Bellis Fair mall is also on the lookout for new team members, as indicated on the company’s website. This dual hiring initiative is creating a wave of excitement among job seekers eager to join the retail sector.

Unemployment Rate Shows Slight Decline

In employment news, Whatcom County is witnessing a slight improvement as the latest data from the Washington State Employment Security Department reveals a drop in the unemployment rate. The county’s unemployment rate fell to 5.0% in January, reflecting 5,647 unemployed individuals, marking a 0.2% decrease from December. This uptick in employment numbers serves as a hopeful sign for both job seekers and local businesses alike.
