Akshaya Tritiya 2026: Gold, Silver, or Gold Stocks—Where Should Investors Invest This Year?

Published:

Gold and Silver: A Tale of Two Metals Ahead of Akshaya Tritiya

As we approach Akshaya Tritiya, a significant day in the Hindu calendar marked by auspiciousness for new beginnings, the focus shifts to precious metals, particularly gold and silver. This year, both metals have shown impressive performances since last Akshaya Tritiya, yet the disparity in their returns has been remarkable.

Gold: The Steady Reserve

Performance Metrics

Gold has long been revered as a reliable store of value, and its price movements reflect this status. From approximately Rs 97,910 per 10 grams on April 30, 2025, gold prices have surged to about Rs 1.55 lakh per 10 grams by early April 2026. This represents a substantial gain of nearly 58.7% in less than a year—a commendable performance by any standard.

Market Dynamics

Despite the fluctuation in global markets driven by factors such as geopolitical tensions and shifting interest rate expectations, gold has maintained a steady allure. The recent softness in prices has drawn the attention of consumers, particularly as we approach the wedding season. Arun Narayan, chief executive of Tanishq, highlighted that buyers could consider advancing their purchases, especially if prices remain subdued, thereby giving potential investors a chance to capitalize on favorable market conditions.

Silver: The Rising Star

Striking Growth in Returns

While gold’s performance is impressive, silver has truly stolen the spotlight. This metal has skyrocketed from around Rs 1 lakh per kg during last Akshaya Tritiya to nearly Rs 2.70 lakh per kg now. This translates to an astounding return of about 160%—almost three times that of gold. The demand for silver, influenced by its utility in various sectors such as renewable energy, electric vehicles, and electronics, has bolstered its market performance.

Volatility Considerations

However, the robust growth of silver comes with a notable caveat: its higher volatility. While this creates potential for greater returns, it also amplifies risk. As such, experts often recommend a staggered approach to accumulation, allowing for a mitigating strategy against the unpredictability inherent in silver investments.

Performance of Gold Jewellery Stocks

In addition to the metals themselves, investments in gold jewellery stocks have also demonstrated robust gains, with some companies seeing stock prices shoot up by as much as 100% since last Akshaya Tritiya. Prominent players like Thangamayil Jewellery have led this surge, while Titan Company and Goldiam International have also seen significant increases in their share prices, reflecting growing consumer interest.

As the domestic sales in the jewellery sector showcased a yearly jump of between 32% to 124% during the March quarter, this momentum appears set to sustain, particularly during the ongoing wedding season and ahead of Akshaya Tritiya on April 19.

Investment Considerations for Akshaya Tritiya

With the festival approaching, potential investors face critical choices regarding where to place their bets. Fundamentally, silver enjoys significant tailwinds thanks to diverse applications in tech and renewable sectors, coupled with supply constraints that suggest a bullish long-term outlook. However, cautious investors should be wary of its volatility.

On the flip side, gold represents a steady long-term investment. Analysts like Kaveri More from Choice Broking point out a noticeable demand for lightweight jewellery and digital gold, advising investors to take advantage of current price corrections as they prepare for the upcoming festival. Historical trends also show that gold has consistently rendered positive returns during this period, further reinforcing its status as a safe investment choice.

Tata Mutual Fund further echoes optimism for gold, citing supportive fundamentals and persistent global uncertainties, suggesting that price corrections shouldn’t deter investors but be viewed as opportunities for accumulation.

Decision-Making: Gold vs. Silver vs. Jewellery Stocks

Ultimately, the choice between gold, silver, and gold stocks boils down to individual risk appetites. Gold provides stability and compound growth potential, silver offers heightened return potential albeit with higher risk, while jewellery stocks present a leveraged opportunity on growing demand.

Whether you’re an experienced investor or someone considering their first foray into precious metals, the landscape is rich with options as we celebrate Akshaya Tritiya. Each choice comes with its unique set of challenges and rewards, making thorough consideration essential in navigating this vibrant market.

This article encapsulates the complex dynamics between gold and silver while providing actionable insights tailored to prospective investors as they navigate their investment strategies ahead of Akshaya Tritiya.
