University of Lynchburg Men’s Basketball Dominates Bridgewater in ODAC Showdown

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The University of Lynchburg’s men’s basketball team showcased an exceptional performance on Saturday, overwhelming Bridgewater College with a decisive score of 91-73. This victory not only solidified their standing in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) but also boosted their overall confidence as they progress through the season.

Stellar Individual Performances

Leading the charge for the Hornets was sophomore forward Jamarcus Brown, who put on a scoring clinic with 26 points, demonstrating efficiency by hitting 10 of 14 attempts from the field. In addition to his scoring prowess, Brown contributed nine rebounds and three steals, making his presence felt on both ends of the court.

Not far behind him was Jesse Mitchell, who racked up 19 points while shooting an impressive 61.5% from the floor. His ability to secure five rebounds added depth to the Hornets’ efforts. Meanwhile, Jayson Easton fired up the crowd with his three-point shooting, nailing five triples and finishing with 17 points, showcasing his shooting prowess from beyond the arc.

A Strong Start Leads to Control

From the onset, Lynchburg set the tone for the game. They surged to a commanding 41-28 lead at halftime, largely thanks to their effective shooting and dynamic ball movement. The Hornets displayed a remarkable shooting percentage of 47.2% in the first half while effectively stifling Bridgewater’s offense, holding the Eagles to a mere 38% shooting. This defensive tenacity allowed Lynchburg to transition quickly, maximizing scoring opportunities off turnovers.

Dominance in the Second Half

The second half saw Lynchburg explode offensively, tallying 50 points and amplifying their lead through sharpshooting. They hit an astonishing 65.2% of their shots during the final 20 minutes, which included six successful three-pointers. The Hornets didn’t just rely on their perimeter shooting; they aggressively attacked the paint, extending their lead to as much as 26 points.

Jake Hart played a crucial role in orchestrating the offense with five assists. The team’s overall ball movement was evident, culminating in 15 assists on 32 made field goals—a testament to their teamwork and unselfish play.

Defensive Efforts Pay Off

Not only did Lynchburg excel offensively, but they also dominated on the defensive end. The Hornets won the rebounding battle with a total of 41 boards against Bridgewater’s 38. Crucially, Lynchburg forced the Eagles into 14 turnovers, converting those mistakes into 23 points. Their relentless defense also resulted in seven steals and four blocks, showcasing their commitment to stopping Bridgewater’s offensive flow.

Bridgewater’s Struggles

Despite the result, Bridgewater had moments of brilliance, led by Jahmir Brown who matched Lynchburg’s Jamarcus with 26 points of his own. Mous Diop contributed 12 points, but the Eagle’s struggles to adapt to Lynchburg’s defensive pressure ultimately limited their scoring efficiency to 42.4% over the course of the game.

Looking Ahead

With this victory, the Hornets not only bolster their conference record to 6-5 but also continue building momentum as they look forward to facing Averett on Wednesday, Jan. 4.
