A Heartwarming Move: Chelsea and Annemieke’s Family Reunion
A Dream Come True
In an exciting turn of events for Chelsea, her mother Annemieke has made the decision to relocate from the Waikato region to be closer to her family. “It’s a dream come true,” Chelsea beams with joy. Annemieke, at 76, and her husband Kevin, have purchased a picturesque bush-covered property, complete with a meandering stream that runs through it. This beautiful new home is not just a change of scenery but a canvas for creating cherished family memories, with plans for the grandchildren that include whimsical huts for camping and winding trails for exploration.
Sunday Family Dinners
The family has mapped out a delightful routine: Sunday dinners at Annemieke and Kevin’s place. “That beautiful extended family dynamic is so important,” Chelsea emphasizes. “Mum has a natural gift with children, and they absolutely adore being with their ‘oma’.” This weekly ritual serves not only as a chance to share a meal but fosters deeper family bonds, infusing each gathering with laughter, love, and connection.
A Shared Legacy of Strength and Creativity
Those who know Chelsea and Annemieke often comment on their striking similarities—they are both tenacious, hardworking, and brimming with creativity and warmth. Reflecting on her daughter, Annemieke recalls sensing early on that Chelsea was destined for something special. “I could tell even before she was born. The energy and purpose were evident from the very beginning!”
Kitchen Adventures and Culinary Foundations
Many fond family memories revolve around the kitchen. Annemieke laughs as she recounts a story from Chelsea’s childhood when she found a three-year-old Chelsea simmering carrots and potatoes on the stove, proudly declaring, “Cooking!” These early experiences were a jumping-off point for Chelsea’s culinary journey. The family spent summers at their bach on Great Barrier Island, where they would fish, cook, and share meals with friends. “I might call myself a basic cook,” Annemieke shares modestly, “but I learned how to create meals that bring people together.”
From Family Stall to Culinary Stardom
Chelsea’s cooking journey took a more professional turn when she started assisting with the family food stall at the renowned Fieldays agricultural event. Serving up mouth-watering bacon-and-egg buns and Dutch apple tart allowed her to hone her skills amidst the hustle and bustle of a queue of eager diners. Fast forward to 2012, and Chelsea had made a name for herself as the winner of MasterChef NZ. Following this milestone, she embarked on a publishing journey, releasing seven cookbooks, each one reflecting her evolving culinary style.
Introducing Nourish: A New Cookbook
Her eighth cookbook, Nourish, has recently hit the shelves. This new collection encapsulates her growth as a cook and her desire to create nutrient-dense recipes that families can enjoy together. More than just a cookbook, Nourish is framed as a tool for weaving nourishment into everyday life. “My kids inspired this one,” Chelsea shares enthusiastically, noting that since she received the initial copy, it has been a constant presence in her kitchen. It’s designed as a practical resource, filled with comforting recipes that evoke nostalgia yet meet modern dietary needs, including gluten-free options for most dishes.
Collaboration and Community Focus
For the first time, Chelsea collaborated with her close friend Heliena on this book. “I wouldn’t have done this one without her,” Chelsea emphasizes. The collaborative process was filled with joy, marking a delightful departure from the solitary nature of her previous projects. Nourish was born out of a shared goal: to help parents solve the daily challenge of providing nutritious and delicious meals their children will gladly eat.
Emphasizing Self-Care
Balancing a busy career while raising her children has taught Chelsea the importance of self-care. These days start with a warm cup of cacao and often include a daily walk on the beach. She consciously sets aside time to nurture herself, understanding that a filled cup allows her to better serve her family and manage her career. “Every single minute counts," she reflects, prioritizing activities that rejuvenate her spirit and body.
Upcoming Retreat
Chelsea’s commitment to self-care has inspired her to host an upcoming women’s retreat at the luxurious Flockhill Lodge in Canterbury. This retreat promises a range of healing modalities, from breath work to nourishing food, creating a unique opportunity for women to focus on their own well-being. For Chelsea, this retreat is another way to extend her philosophy of nourishment beyond the table and into life’s broader aspects—body, soul, and spirit.
New Ventures Await
In addition to her retreat and Nourish, Chelsea is looking ahead to various new ventures including a food product line and her first beauty product, a body butter. Excitingly, she is also set to lead a foodie group tour to Sri Lanka in March 2026, a testament to her adventurous spirit and passion for food.
Chelsea’s journey is a beautiful tapestry woven with family, food, and self-discovery, driven by her dedication to nourishing both the body and soul. Each new chapter promises to be as enriching as the last, and the future looks bright as she continues to weave her love for cooking into the fabric of family life.
