City Council’s Tech Gadgets Help Alleviate Financial Strain for University Students

Support for Students: A Tablet Initiative That Makes a Difference

For tertiary students, especially those from low-income families, every little bit of assistance can significantly alleviate financial pressure. One such student benefiting from recent support is Nur Anis Alliesya Nazri, a 20-year-old student at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Pasir Gudang. With her father’s passing last June, Nur Anis is solely reliant on her mother’s income, making each financial decision a heavy consideration. The recent gift of a tablet device from the Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) arrived at an opportune moment in her educational journey.

“I usually save up to get what I need for my studies,” Nur Anis shared. With exams around the corner, she expressed gratitude for receiving the tablet in such a timely manner. The new device allows her the flexibility to review lecture notes and tackle past examination questions at any time and place. Unlike her old, bulky laptop, the tablet’s lightweight design enhances her ability to study on the go—making it a pivotal tool during her academic commitments.

A Fresh Start for Students

Nur Anis is among eleven students from UiTM Pasir Gudang to receive tablets through the MPBG initiative, celebrated at an event held on campus. Another recipient, Ali Asymawi Ali Hanafiah, also 20 years old and studying business studies with a focus on transport, was pleasantly surprised to receive the contribution.

“I am thankful for the tablet because my old phone and laptop lag. This made learning, especially during classes, quite challenging,” Ali explained. The tablet not only alleviated the need to purchase a new device but also offered him a chance to focus more entirely on his learning without the constant frustrations that come with lagging technology. He is excited to utilize the tablet during his weekly online lessons, knowing that it will significantly enhance his study experience.

Improved Productivity and Efficiency

For Aina Farzana Norizan, another recipient studying electrical engineering, the tablet has proven invaluable in boosting her productivity. “I can now switch between tasks faster and stay more organized,” she noted. Before receiving the device, Aina managed her academic work solely on her laptop, which limited her ability to multitask effectively.

With the tablet, she feels more empowered to participate in online discussions and presentations, and the added flexibility makes it easier for her to manage her studies—even when she is outside the traditional study environment. “This contribution has eased my family’s financial burden. Buying a new device would have been costly,” she added, highlighting the significant financial relief provided by the MBPG initiative.

A Thoughtful Initiative with Community Impact

Pasir Gudang Mayor Datuk Mustaffa Kamal Shamsudin, who distributed the devices, reminded the students of the value of their educational opportunities. His words encouraged the students to maintain a proper mindset as they pursue their studies, underlining the importance of intention and dedication in their academic journeys.

Dr. Siti Khadijah Alias, the assistant rector of UiTM Pasir Gudang, echoed similar sentiments. She expressed hope that this gesture of kindness would inspire the students to keep striving despite the challenges they face. The assistance not only reflects support but also instills motivation among the students, reminding them that their community is invested in their success.

A Future of Hope and Support

The MBPG tablet initiative exemplifies a thoughtful approach to student assistance, particularly in a landscape increasingly dominated by digital learning. By providing these devices, the program helps bridge the technological divide for students like Nur Anis, Ali, and Aina, enhancing their academic experience and easing financial strain.

As students express their gratitude for this timely aid, they also hope for the continuation of such support in the future. Initiatives like these are essential in ensuring that all students, especially those lacking suitable learning tools, have the chance to excel academically in today’s increasingly digital world. The future looks brighter with ongoing community support, fostering an environment where education thrives and individual potential is realized.
