Ebro Couple Faces Heartbreak After Devastating House Fire
A Night of Tragedy
In the quiet town of Ebro, Florida, a couple’s life was turned upside down last Friday when they received a devastating phone call while working the night shift at Casey’s. Ammie Pearse and her partner were told by a concerned neighbor that their home was engulfed in flames. Upon returning home, Pearse faced the heartbreaking reality of watching her home reduced to mere ashes. “When we made it home, it was gone,” she said, recalling the moment she realized her entire life had been lost in an instant.
Enduring Loss and Grief
The fire, which Pearse suspects was caused by an electrical fault, claimed not only their belongings but also irreplaceable mementos. Among the terrifying losses was the ashes of Pearse’s daughter, who tragically passed away in August 2024 due to an overdose of fentanyl. This loss added a layer of profound grief to an already overwhelming situation. “I gave my best friend a necklace that had ashes in it, and she gave it to me back,” Pearse noted, sharing that she does still possess this small connection to her daughter.
Heroic Acts Amidst Chaos
As the flames consumed their home, Pearse’s thoughts turned to the safety of their pets. In a moment of fortuitous bravery, a stranger stopped to help, managing to open the back door and free their trapped cat and dog. Within a couple of hours, Pearse was joyfully reunited with her dog, though she feared her cat may have perished in the blaze. “I just knew he was gone, but he finally came,” she recounted, relieved yet still shaken by the experience.
Community Steps In
In the aftermath of this tragic event, community support emerged as a crucial lifeline for Pearse and her partner. Her best friend, Jordan Gambrell, started a GoFundMe page to help the couple get back on their feet. “This is all they have, so we’re really trying to come up with enough to put a camper here or a trailer, just some temporary shelter,” Gambrell said. The fundraising goal is set at $4,000, and while they’ve managed to gather $1,800 so far, there’s still a long way to go.
