Hull Pirates: Rising Stars and Epic Battles on the Field
The Hull Pirates Midget Football team has made waves this season, showcasing determination and resilience as they prepare for the ultimate showdown in the Old Colony Youth Football League (OCYFL) Super Bowl. In a thrilling match against a formidable Lower Cape squad, the Pirates secured a 28–20 victory, propelling them to championship glory.
An Inspiring Team Performance
Captain Christian Silva played a pivotal role in the offense, scoring multiple touchdowns thanks to his strong support from an outstanding offensive line. Players like Shaine Hutcheson, Cormac Farley, Evan Doyle, Jacob Goodrich, Chase Silva, James Rand, and Jack Ranger formed a cohesive unit that consistently dominated the line of scrimmage, allowing their backs to find the end zone repeatedly.
The game began with Captain Julian Lundrigan asserting his leadership on the field, scoring through a powerful quarterback rush. But his standout moment came with a breathtaking pick-six that ignited the crowd and boosted Hull’s lead. The defense followed suit, with Ranger, Hutcheson, Silva, and Farley putting relentless pressure on Lower Cape’s offense, racking up crucial sacks and forcing turnovers at pivotal moments.
A Strong Defense and Gracious Support
The defensive efforts of the Silva brothers were particularly noteworthy; they worked collaboratively with teammates Chance Ervin, Caden Rangel, Maclin Concannon, Cruz Costigliola, and Jayden Sheets to create a non-stop barrage against their opponents. Their combination of tackles for loss and aggressive play helped secure the Pirates’ victory.
After the game, Head Coach Jeffery Lundrigan, along with his coaching staff—Dave Gibbons, Mike Silva, Andrew Ziniti, and Hudson Sestito—expressed immense pride in their team. “I am extremely proud of these kids for showing up every week, sometimes with only 11 players, and never quitting on each other,” Lundrigan remarked, reflecting the heart and dedication embodied by this remarkable group of young athletes.
Overcoming Challenges and Looking Ahead
Despite facing larger programs throughout the season, the Pirates remain resilient and undeterred. The team suffered a setback with the loss of key player Jet Minkler due to injury, but the anticipation of eighth-grader Aiden Gibbons’ return brings renewed hope as they gear up for the Super Bowl.
The Hull Pirates extend their gratitude to weigh-in representative Karen Goodrich, alongside the dedicated cheer staff and cheerleaders of the Hull Youth Football Association (HYFA), whose enthusiasm and support have fueled the team’s journey.
