Spreading Joy at VUMC: Meet the Dogs of the Day
At Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC), the joy of having pets isn’t just for the home; it permeates the professional environment too. Each week, staff members submit their beloved furry companions for the "Pets of the Day" feature, which offers a delightful glimpse into the lives of these cherished pets. Today, we’re excited to introduce Remi and Ranger, as well as Geppetto and Goliath—two pairs that showcase the endearing variety of personality traits found in our canine friends.
Remi and Ranger: A Tale of Two Contrasts
First up, we have Remi and Ranger, introduced to us through Amy Yingling, a dedicated member of VUMC’s Quality, Safety, and Risk Prevention team.
Remi is described as a charming female border collie mix, affectionately known as a “pound puppy.” This lovely girl is not just intelligent and agile, which is typical of her breed; she also has a softer side. Remi loves to burrow beneath the covers. It’s a quirky yet endearing trait that many dog owners can relate to. The cozy warmth of being snuggled up in bed is something she clearly treasures.
On the flip side, we have Ranger, a delightful Bernese mountain dog. At first glance, you might think he’s a confident giant, but don’t let that fool you—this big boy is characterized as the "biggest fraidy cat." It’s a delightful contrast to Remi’s cuddly spirit, showcasing how each dog has its own unique temperament. Together, they make a fascinating duo that illustrates the richness of a pet’s personality.
Geppetto and Goliath: The Dynamic Duo
Next, we turn to Geppetto and Goliath, introduced by David Zanazanian from the Section of Surgical Sciences. Each dog has been a loyal companion in David’s life, providing both joy and comfort.
Geppetto, the 6-year-old Maltese, is a small dog often known for its affectionate demeanor. Geppetto embodies the spirit of companionship, often finding ways to bring warmth to everyday moments. With his gentle nature, he reminds us of the simple joys that come with having a pet.
On the other hand, Goliath, a 9-year-old Samoyed, brings a slightly different energy. Samoyeds are famous for their fluffy coats and friendly smiles, and Goliath is no exception. His presence is likely larger than life, radiating happiness and warmth as he navigates his surroundings with his characteristic curiosity. Together, Geppetto and Goliath paint a picture of how different breeds can complement one another, demonstrating friendship that transcends differences.
Highlighting the Pets of the Day
The "Pets of the Day" feature serves as a delightful reminder of the role pets play in our lives, especially within a community like VUMC. Selected from countless entries in the VUMC Voice Pet Photo Contest, these featured pets manage to uplift spirits and create connection among staff. The heartwarming snapshots of Remi, Ranger, Geppetto, and Goliath find their home in the MyVUMC News newsletter, which is published biweekly to celebrate the furry, feathery, and scaly companions of VUMC staff.
For pet enthusiasts in the VUMC community, it’s also a chance to engage. Future pet photo contest submissions will be announced via MyVUMC News, giving everyone the opportunity to showcase their beloved pets.
Embracing the Pet Community
As we immerse ourselves in the world of these heartwarming pets, we find a community bonded by love and appreciation for animals. From the gentle nudges of a snuggly border collie mix to the playful antics of a proud Bernese mountain dog, and from the affectionate Maltese to the fluffy glory of a Samoyed, the charisma of these animals transcends the ordinary.
Each submission captures not only a photograph but a snippet of the pet’s personality and the stories they weave into the lives of their owners. For the staff at VUMC, these pets are not just companions; they are a source of joy, comfort, and a reminder of the lighter side of life amid the challenges faced in a medical environment.
So, whether you’re a pet owner or simply an admirer, taking a moment to celebrate these adorable companions adds a touch of warmth to our daily routine—making our days that much brighter.
