A Spooktacular Experience: ZooBoo at the Indianapolis Zoo
The Indianapolis Zoo is transforming into a Halloween wonderland with its annual “ZooBoo” event, a delightful celebration that runs from Wednesdays to Sundays at 2 PM. This enchanting event is designed with family-friendly fun in mind, making it a memorable outing for kids and adults alike.
A Family-Oriented Halloween Adventure
David Hosick, the Director of Public Relations at the Indianapolis Zoo, enthusiastically highlights the event’s appeal. “ZooBoo starts at 2:00 in the afternoon Wednesdays through Sundays,” he shares. It’s an opportunity for families to experience the zoo in a unique way during the spooky season. One important guideline set by the zoo is that only children under 12 years old are allowed to wear face masks as part of their costumes. This policy ensures that the event remains enjoyable for everyone.
Highlights of Pumpkin Town
One of the main attractions at ZooBoo is Pumpkin Town, an area filled with exciting activities designed specifically for younger guests. Kids can navigate through the engaging Mirror Maze, an interactive puzzle that challenges their sense of direction and adds an element of fun to their visit. Additionally, the Leeward Manor beckons visitors with its whimsical charm. Inside, they’ll find the delightful company of three sister creatures: Terra, Wisp, and Bubbles, who add a sprinkle of magic to the experience.
Lighthearted Fun with Costumes
“It’s definitely not scary because it’s very family-oriented,” emphasizes Hosick. Throughout the zoo, visitors will encounter staff members dressed in various costumes, further enriching the festive atmosphere. This blend of lighthearted costume-wearing creates an inviting environment for young trick-or-treaters and their families.
Trick-or-Treating for All Ages
One of the unique features of ZooBoo is the opportunity for kids to go trick-or-treating while they explore the zoo. But the Halloween fun doesn’t stop there. On Friday and Saturday nights, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, adults can also join in the trick-or-treating festivities. “It gives the adults the chance to sample different cocktails that are locally made, and they really enjoy it,” notes Hosick. This adult-centric twist adds a sophisticated touch to the family-friendly event, allowing parents to unwind while still engaging in the Halloween spirit.
A Great Time for Animals, Too
The fall season brings cooler temperatures, making it an excellent time to observe the animals at the zoo. “The animals are also great this time of year with it being a little cooler, so they stay out a little later in the evening,” mentions Hosick. This offers a unique opportunity for families to enjoy animal encounters while participating in the festivities.
A Beloved Community Tradition
ZooBoo has grown to become a cherished tradition for the Indianapolis community, fostering a sense of togetherness and celebration. According to Hosick, “It’s really become a great tradition for the community.” Families look forward to making memories during this Halloween season, further solidifying ZooBoo as a yearly highlight.
