The family of Ifunanya Nwangene, affectionately known as Nanyah, has publicly shared the arrangements for her burial, marking a poignant chapter in the life of an emerging talent in the Abuja music scene. Nanyah, who was just 26 years old, tragically passed away last month from complications resulting from a snake bite at her home.
A Heartfelt Farewell
The funeral proceedings will commence on February 12 with a service of songs held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Abule Oshun, Lagos. This event will serve as a tribute to her life, filled with music, memories, and shared grief among friends and family. Following the service, a requiem mass and an hour dedicated to hymns in her honor will ensue, allowing attendees to reflect on Nanyah’s life and legacy.
On February 13, a wake will take place at the Nwangene family compound in Enugu, where friends will gather to share stories and celebrate the joy she brought into their lives. The final interment is set for February 14 in her hometown, culminating in a thanksgiving service on February 15. This structured approach to the funeral honors not just her memory, but the deep connections she fostered throughout her life.

“She was exceptional in every set,” he remarked, emphasizing her innocence and inherent talent. Even until the day she died, she fought, but this country failed her,” he lamented, highlighting the circumstances surrounding her untimely demise as she sought medical attention at two different hospitals.

An alumnus of the University of Nigeria, Enugu, Nanyah was deeply engaged in her musical community. During her university years, she held the position of choir mistress at St. Mulumba’s Catholic Chaplaincy and was an active member of the Amemuso Choir. Her appearance on The Voice Nigeria four years ago showcased her talent to a wider audience, marking a significant milestone in her artistic development.
